Linda Lavin to take 'The Lyons' to Broadway
NEW YORK (AP) - Add "The Lyons" to the list of off-Broadway hits jumping to the Great White Way.
Producers said Tuesday that Nicky Silver's play about a family grappling with the impending death of its patriarch will start preview performances beginning in early April at the Cort Theatre. Exact dates will be released soon.
The play opened in the fall at the Vineyard Theatre and was twice extended. Returning are Linda Lavin and Dick Latessa, who play wife and husband. The rest of the original cast - Michael Esper, Kate Jennings Grant, Brenda Pressley and Gregory Wooddell - is expected to return as well.
The timing means the play will be eligible for Tony Award nominations. Other plays that began off-Broadway this season include "Other Desert Cities" and "Venus in Fur."
