8TV lines up new shows

By SHAMALA VELU

You can expect great entertainment on 8TV as the station has lined up some great new shows for the coming months. Besides American series, there are also hit Hong Kong dramas for your viewing pleasure.

The channel will be airing popular titles such as Desperate Housewives (Season 5), Pushing Daisies (Season 2), Ugly Betty (Season 3), Gossip Girl (Season 2), Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency (Season 8), NCIS (Season 5), Prison Break (Season 4), Burn Notice (Season 2), Criminal Minds (Season 4), Reaper (Season 2), American Idol (Season 8), America’s Next Top Model (Season 8) and Project Runway (Season 5). `

Bobby Cannavale stars in new series Cupid.

In the current season of Desperate Housewives, the lives of Susan, Lynette, Bree and Gaby get more complicated. Susan tries to hide her relationship with a new man while Gaby questions her abilities as a mother.

Meanwhile, Bree is about to publish her own cookbook as business partner Katherine grows envious. Lynette finds out that her teenage twins are spearheading illegal activities. Edie returns to Wisteria Lane in jaw-dropping fashion with a new man in tow.

Criminal Minds’ season opener is filled with excitement as the car carrying members of the BAU explodes. The rest of the team fights to save their colleagues and catch the terrorists responsible for the bombing.

For new drama series, look out for Dollhouse, Cupid and 90210.

Dollhouse is worth the buzz because it’s created by Joss Whedon (who gave us Buffy, the Vampire Slayer and Firefly). The series has yet to premiere in the United States.

Set sometime in the future, it stars Eliza Dushku as one of people in a laboratory who have their memories erased after completing their assignments. But then Dushku’s character kind of wakes up and begins to question her memory.

Bobby Cannavale plays Trevor Hale, who claims to be Cupid. His goal in life is to help people fall in love. Hale must create 100 happily-ever-afters in order to return to his home – Mount Olympus since he’s Cupid, the ancient Roman god of love.

He says that he is being punished by the gods for the modern world’s sorry state of love, and was sent to Earth to rediscover what really makes love work.

Local hit series Ghost (Season 2) and the entertaining 8TV Quickie will be on air too. New local drama Blogger Boy will make its debut soon while Phat Rides will be the station’s first show about cars.

Reality TV show One in a Million will be back with fresh talents for the third season. There are new reality shows The Last Passenger and Cheerleaders to look out for as well.

As for Asian content, the station offers popular drama series from South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Japan. Some of the shows are Miss No Good, Flaming Butterfly, On Air, Il Ji Mae, Gourmet and Kung Fu Macchiato.

The Hong Kong series include Maiden’s Vow, The Brink of Law, To Grow with Love, Heart of Greed and Glittering Days. These shows will be aired on the Best of TVB Dramas slot.

8TV will continue to produce highly rated Chinese shows like Double, Triple or Nothing (Season 2), Go-Go-Go! (Season 2), Unveil the Truth (Season 2), Truth Revealed, 8 Style, Ho Chiak! and 8 E-news.

Since the first season of Double, Triple or Nothing was a success, 8TV will be producing Double, Triple or Nothing Kids, to appeal to the younger viewers.

The hit Chinese model search reality show I Wanna Be a Model, will also be back for the third season. Also not to be missed is Ultimate Power Group, a group singing competition. What’s more, the station is expanding its local drama line-up with A Cup of Love and The Adjusters.
