Special concert

THE Living Arts Dance Studio (LADS) is organising a fund-raising concert in aid of two special children – Patrick Ding and Thanesvaran from Taman Megah’s Handicapped and Disabled Children’s Home. The concert aims to raise RM10,000 for the children who suffer from cerebral palsy and are from low-income families.

Themed Passion Aiding The Children (Patch), the event will be held at Living Arts Dance Studio, No 1-3, Jalan PJS 8/11, Dataran Mentari, Bandar Sunway, Petaling Jaya, Selangor on Sunday at 5pm. There will be performances by students and teachers of LADS and dance professionals from around the Klang Valley.

  • GAVIN Yap’s Wrecks will be staged at Pentas 2, The Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPac), Sentul Park, Jalan Strachan. This funny and moving love story is about Edward (Patrick Teoh), a loving father, successful businessman and grieving widower. At his wife’s funeral, he candidly shares his story about his life with the woman of his dreams.

    Written by Neil LaBute, the one-man play will challenge the audience’s assumptions about love, family and marriage. Show days are Nov 13–17 and Nov 20–22 (8.30pm) with a performance on Nov 18 (3pm).

    David Pledger: The Melbourne-based multi-media artist and artistic director of Not Yet its Difficult will hold a workshop tonight.
  • THE Australian High Commission, in collaboration with Instant Café Theatre Company’s FIRSTWoRKS Programme, will present a workshop by David Pledger, Melbourne-based multi-media artist and artistic director of Not Yet its Difficult (NYID).

    NYID is one of Australia’s leading contemporary arts companies that produces original performance works, public space projects and plays. The talk will focus on NYID’s work and ways of exploring and developing different genres of writing for live performances and screen-based visual arts practice.

  • LELA Manja will be staged from tonight till Nov 11 at the Panggung Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur. The story revolves around Lela and her younger brother, Manja, who were separated after their father’s demise.

  • In conjunction with the Italian Language Week in the World, the Jumping JellyBeans will have a theatrical workshop I miti e il mare (Myths and Oceans) from tonight till 11 at The Annexe Gallery, The Annexe, Central Market in Kuala Lumpur. Showtime is 5pm.

    At the workshop, participants will explore legends and myths from Iliad, Odyssey and Aeneid through theatrical improvisations. Passages of the epics will be analysed and through theatrical games, participants can elaborate on and present a theatrical version of the story through physical expression.

    The aim of the workshop is to familiarise participants with the ancient myths of Italian culture and to explore different ways of using body and voice. Cinzia and Cristiana Ciaramicoli, and Shanthini Venugopal will conduct the workshop.

  • The merry cast of Canada’s Dufflebag Theatre will whisk you away on an exciting theatrical adventure to legendary Sherwood Forest in Robin Hood. And the best part is that the leading actor in Robin Hood can be a child or an adult from the audience.

    The “actor” will get into the thick of the action and will be guided by the skilful narrator and cast of actors.

    The rest of the audience will not be left out – they get to be a part of the drama, too, by responding to prompts and cues from the narrator as the plot unfolds.

    The performance will take place at The Actors Studio Bangsar, Level 3, West Wing Bangsar Shopping Centre in Kuala Lumpur. Showtimes for tomorrow and Saturday are 5pm. There is an extra show tomorrow at 8pm.

    Tickets are priced at RM30 (for children up to 12 years old) and RM47 (for adults) excluding the RM2 ticket handling fee. There is a RM28 discount for every four tickets (for two adults and two children) purchased for the same show.
