Juwita Suwito: For Real

AFTER the debut AIM-winning album Brand New World back in 2004, it’s sophomore album time for singer-songwriter Juwita Suwito.

The album’s 10 tracks see Juwita heading into more acoustic pop rock territory for the most part, compared with the more pop soulful leanings of her debut effort. Especially with the first three tracks, Walk Away, Destiny’s Calling and All This Time, one would find that Juwita’s vocals lean towards a grittier, edgier style, yet layered with her familiar confidence and clarity.
The tracklisting also includes Walking Again, title track For Real and What’s On Your Mind.
There’s a duet featuring Faizul Tahir (Mayday!), and an interesting cover of the Eagles’ Desperado, but for the most part, Juwita once again showcases a burgeoning songwriting focus with six self-penned tracks, balancing well between the realms of acoustic pop rock, and the sweet ballads in Christian contemporary.
It may well be her voice, once again, that carries this effort through but the production quality of this album cannot be denied either, nor can her rising songwriting ability be ignored.
It’s a great return for Juwita and already some of the tracks have been played on air locally. The ballad Beautiful Lies was featured in local movie Gol & Gincu, while the one Malay number, Taman Sejati (penned by Juwita herself) is now rising in the Hot FM charts.
For Real is available at all Victoria Music Station outlets in the Klang Valley, all Glad Sounds outlets, RAM – The Music Place (Kota Kinabalu), CD Baby (www.cdbaby.com) and all Canaanland stores. – By Jason Cheah
