Party with Tiesto

Compiled by JASON CHEAH

ONE of the world’s top superstar DJs will be in town during the Formula 1 weekend from March 17 to 19 for an exclusive stadium-style gig to savour.

DJ Tiesto is arguably the world’s top DJ over the past four years, and although he did lose his No.1 ranking in DJ Mag’s Top 100 ranking to Germany’s Paul van Dyk just recently, he did hold it for three consecutive years and still holds the top ranking in other lists such as The DJ List.

Tiesto will be in town for an exclusive stadium-style gig
He’s played the Olympics, packed 25,000 for a gig of his own in stadiums in the Netherlands and released them on DVD and now he’s bringing that “live” atmosphere to Asia for the first time.

Tiesto (real name Tijs Verwest) will be performing a special five-hour set for the upcoming Renault F1 Pit Party on March 18, right in the middle of the F1 weekend, at the KLIA Limousine Shuttle Bay (arguably the first time a clubbing party event has returned to the vicinity of KLIA in the last four years).

“We’re taking partying to a new level,” says James Yong of Scenique Productions, who will be bringing Tiesto in.

“Europe and America have already started this concert style club gig, so we decided to take it a step further and bring it here.

“We’re taking over the limousine shuttle bay, (temporarily) removing all lamp posts setting up a 80m wide stage (just for) Tiesto, we are also bringing in the same VJ who has worked with Tiesto before to add to the spectacle.”

In fact, for added confirmation, the gig has already been listed on Tiesto’s official website (www.tiesto.com).

Tiesto’s stardom has been at a peak for the last few years. Lately, he scored a number one Dutch hit with his single Traffic, the first instrumental track to reach the top spot in his homeland in 23 years.

His remix of Delerium featuring Sarah McLachlan’s Silence was the first house track ever broadcast on daytime radio in North America, (it became an international dance floor anthem and also spent eight weeks in the British Top 10 singles chart).

With three studio albums to his credit (In My Memory, Just Be and Parade of the Athletes), two DVD releases of his live concerts, numerous compilation mix albums, including the best-selling series In Search of Sunrise of which he has released four, Tiesto’s popularity knows no bounds and his fan base even in Malaysia is strong.

For this upcoming appearance he will be bringing a guest vocalist, Jess, to add to his show.

Also featured as support will be Derb & Drum Connection from Germany, and Malaysian/Australian collective Bass Agents.

Tiesto will start his set at 10pm sharp as the event must legally close up by 3am. Tickets will be priced at RM65 (presale) and RM80 on the door (includes one drink). Doors open at 6pm. Presale will be available from Feb 27 at Music Valley outlets at Sungei Wang Plaza, Jalan Sultan Ismail and Mid Valley Megamall in Kuala Lumpur, Rock Corner at 1-Utama and Fantasy Music Center at Sunway Pyramid, Bandar Sunway.
